  5. African Physical Training Organisation

    The African Physical Training Organization (APTO) is a charity, working in partnerships with a lots of others organization in the UK, know up to 28 August 2002 as the community of Congolese parents Club in Camden (Florida Bana Centre Ville) in the UK began its work in 1997 as a response to the difficulties faced by the Congolese community in the UK in the nineties fleeing war and political insecurity prevailing back home. We wish to bring about a future where African French Speaking, Congolese people in particular are able to realize their full social and economic potential as integral and active members of society in the UK . We believe this will be enabled by increasing opportunities for education, sport, improving access to health services and good housing and raising the quality of life of the African French Speaking community in the UK.

    We offer supplementary classes for Albanian pupils. We carry out mother tongue, English and maths classes up to GCSE levels for Albanian children, organise social and cultural events such as traditional dancing classes, engage young people on different sport activities and provide training and confidence building for Albanian speaking women.   10. Bengali Womens Forum

    We are a voluntary organisation based in Camden but serving the interests of women from deprived communities and their families, locally and nationally. Our purpose and our role is to provide advice and information on welfare rights, debt, employment, and health issues as well as representation, advocacy and translation services. We promote the valuable contribution women make in the communities they live in and seek to empower more of them to do so through educational, training and employment services. We run a supplementary school to facilitate and support the education of children and younger people from poorer backgrounds, those with learning disabilities and those with special needs. We run a registered youth football team and facilitate sports and recreational services. We engage with women in the communities through events, seminars and workshops and seek to address their concerns to ensure their rights and responsibilities.

  25. KEEN London

    KEEN London runs sport and recreation sessions every weekend for children with disabilities such as autism, learning disability, down's syndrome and cerebral palsy amongst others. The activities we offer are broad and include playground games, sports like basketball and football, dance and music. We also take trips to the zoo, boating, bowling, ice skating and swimming and go on two residential trips each year. Volunteers are paired up with our athletes and support them in accessing everything we have on offer. Sessions take place on Saturdays in Hackney and Vauxhall and Sundays in Tufnell Park.

Our activities are run by qualified volunteers from the local community.     Camden Council closed Chalk Farm Library in April 2012, as part of widespread cuts. Thanks to a massive show of local support, both in terms of financial donations and of offers to volunteer time, the library was able to re-open as Primrose Hill Community Library (“PHCL”) in mid 2012. The Library has its own Board but ultimately sits under the umbrella of the long established and highly successful Community Association. PHCL [is] open four days a week as a lending library (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday); on the other three days it will be available for commercial hire/community events.
